On March 6, Kennedy High School seniors Sophia Berin, Bailey Germann and Elizabeth Lau participated in the Long Island History Day competition at Hofstra University.

They presented research papers they wrote in social studies teacher Dennis Urban’s historical research class, Uncovering the Past, which is the capstone course in the Gilder Lehrman American History sequence at Kennedy High School.

Sophia Berin won the Women's History Award for her research paper, "Immortal Imaginings: The Life and Work of Ada Lovelace." Sophia also placed third overall in the Senior Research Paper category, which means she'll be moving on to the state-level competition in Cooperstown in April.
