Seniors in Mepham High School’s Participation in Government and Senior Experience class set up the school’s third Flag Field of Honor as part of their Senior Service Learning Project on Nov. 5.

Students, along with teachers, administrators, Superintendent of Schools John DeTommaso and board of education trustee Steve Enella, all pitched in on the rainy morning to dig holes, unbox flags and dot the lawn in red, white and blue.

“The field of honor is set up each year to pay tribute to America's service men and women, veterans, 9/11 first responders and victims,” said teacher and coordinator Kerry Dennis.

This year, 303 American and military branch flags were sold.
“All proceeds from this year's Flag Field of Honor will benefit Boots on the Ground New York, a local organization dedicated to helping America's veterans and current service men and women,” added teacher and coordinator Chris Patten.

The flags will be on display along the Camp Avenue side of the school until Dec. 9.
