The Department of World Languages would like to announce the winners of their third annual districtwide contest.

Both middle and high school students submitted entries in poem, essay, comic strip and poster categories. This year’s contest focused on the value of learning another language through the theme of “Stay Connected...Learn a Language.”

The top three poster finalists from each school were displayed at the district’s administrative building to determine the district-wide favorites. Central administration staff voted for their top choices in both middle school and high school categories.

The following students were selected among all finalists: Anastasia Slobodov (Calhoun High School, first place - high school), Skylar Sena (Merrick Avenue Middle School, first place- middle school), Linda Jiang (Kennedy High School, second place - high school), Gary Solorzano - Ruiz (MAMS, second place- middle school), Julia Bremer (Calhoun, third place - high school) and Rachel Gulyaev (Grand Avenue Middle School, third place - middle school).

“We would like to thank the entire World Languages department for judging and to the faculty, staff and students who submitted votes for the poster contest. We would like to send a special thanks to all our students who participated and the teachers who helped make this event a huge success,” said World Languages co-chairperson Enrique Montes.
