The Merrick Avenue Department of World Languages celebrated Foreign Language Week with several fantastic activities and events. Each teacher’s students represented a different country for the week’s festivities.

“Some of the countries represented were China, France, Italy, Mexico, Cuba and Spain,” said World Languages Chairperson Rosa Kaplan. “Students decorated classroom doors and hallways to showcase each country. ENL students decorated their classroom door to represent the United States and conducted the morning announcements in Greek, Chinese, Spanish, Turkish and Russian in addition to English. This year, students learned unique idioms in their classes as well.”

Throughout the week, students and staff voted on the best poster in the department’s annual poster contest, the theme of which was Kindness Connects Cultures. On March 9, students and staff tasted dishes from all over the world as students shared delicacies from their own cultures.
