On Feb. 5, students in Helen Han’s and Lydia Qiu’s Mandarin classes welcomed the Year of the Pig when they celebrated the Chinese New Year, also known as the Spring Festival.

The students made traditional red envelopes, Tangrams (puzzles), dragon dances and dumplings using play-doh and other materials. They composed couplets — a type of Chinese poetry — to mark the event.

They also enjoyed delicious Chinese cuisine. Students contributed to the festive environment by preparing good luck banners and paper lanterns.
Happy New year! 新年快乐! Xīn nián kuài lè!
