Analisa Coppa of Kennedy High School recently earned Gold Key writing awards from the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.

The awards were for her short story "Clarity" as well as her writing portfolio "Case Study of the Soul."

“Analisa is one of the most thoughtful and intelligent students I have had in my career,” explained English teacher Vivian DiGennaro. “She is creative and curious and well-spoken and interested. Her desire to learn goes past the page of the textbook or novel and her desire to learn is intrinsic. Analisa's writing — both creative and academic is sophisticated and complex and beautiful.”

This recognition puts Coppa, 17, in the running for Scholastic's $10,000 scholarship, which she will be notified in mid-March if selected.

This competition is open to high school students nationwide and usually brings in tens of thousands of entries.
