Dr. Mara Bollettieri, the deputy superintendent for the district, was among 15 honorees of the Nassau BOCES Education Partner award on April 11.

“I absolutely love what I do,” Dr. Bollettieri said. “Every day I come in and work my hardest for kids; I give it my all. My fellow Bellmore-Merrick educators feel the same. I feel blessed to be in a place that has such exceptional people with unbelievable ideas, big hearts and tremendous work ethics. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else in the world.”

Nassau BOCES created the awards program to honor those who share the agency's commitment to providing the best possible education – and Dr. Bollettieri certainly spends her days fulfilling this mission.

In March 2014, Dr. Bollettieri helped to create a districtwide student-led think tank. Student ambassadors from the district’s four high schools and two middle schools now join together throughout the school year to address issues impacting the student body and surrounding community. They also collaborate to host an annual Day of Service and fundraising run.

In 2016, she also oversaw the creation of a food pantry, the Community Cupboard, which serves more than 40 local families on a bi-weekly basis. The food bank is housed at the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District building at 1260 Meadowbrook Road.
