Candace Casimir, a sophomore at Wellington C. Mepham High School, won the regional Poetry Out Loud Competition on Feb. 9 at Nassau Community College.

Casimir will now represent Mepham at the New York State competition on March 9.

Poetry Out Loud is a national arts education program that encourages the study of great poetry by offering educational materials and a dynamic recitation competition to high schools across the country. English teacher Nicole Maresca and chairperson Mary Donnelly were instrumental in organizing this year’s program.
