Students enrolled in French classes at Grand Avenue and Merrick Avenue Middle Schools recognized National French Week through a series of activities designed to promote the French language and culture.

Students from Richard Zawislak’s and Denise Schleith’s eighth-grade classes participated in a French competition. Teams France, Belgium, Canada and Haiti competed to show off their French knowledge.

Grand Avenue teacher Meredith Levine and Merrick Avenue teachers Lauren Cress and Jennifer Verwys served as this year’s scorekeepers and judges.

“Over the week, students took part in the morning announcements by sharing a French Word of the Day, Fact of the Day, and Question of the Day,” said World Languages Chairperson Renée Fallon.
