Calhoun’s Ben Shaposhnikov Named to NYSSMA All-National Symphony Orchestra

Ben Shaposhnikov, a student and trumpet player at Calhoun High School was named to the New York State School Music Association All-National Symphony Orchestra.

Trained in both classical and jazz genres, he has been part of the distinguished Juilliard Pre-College Program for the past three years and works tirelessly on his craft.

“Ben is one of the most intuitive and hard-working students,” said Ed Tumminelli, the Wind Ensemble director at Calhoun. He is outstanding not only in talent, but in his strength as a role model to musicians around him. His love of music is contagious and inspirational to his classmates.”

Shaposhnikov will perform with other talented students from around the country at the All-National Honors Ensembles Concert at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort in Orlando, Florida in November. He will also have a featured role in the Calhoun winter concert on Dec. 19.
