Grace Bayer, a junior at Mepham High School, was recently one of 20 students from across the nation named a California Arts Scholar. She and the others will attend the California State Summer School for the Arts program.

“These participants are selected on the basis of their talent and creativity,” explained teacher Talon Bidermann.

This rigorous, four-week training program is aimed at improving high school students’ aesthetics and technique.

Bayer’s ink drawing was also recently featured in the Long Island's Best Juried Art Show at the Heckscher Museum of Art. Her artwork will be on display at the Huntington museum through May 19.
