At Grand Avenue we believe sportsmanship is a commitment to playing fairly with respect for the rules of the sport, and with courtesy towards all players, coaches, officials, and fans.
RESPECT: Welcome your visiting opponents. Show high regard for your school, coaches, officials, team, opponents, fans and self.
HONESTY: Give your best effort and let the score reflect the truth. Take pride in being accurate and knowing you are playing by the rules.
INTEGRITY: Accept the results of the game. Win graciously without gloating and lose without pouting or excuses.
SUPPORT: Be positive and offer encouragement. Negative comments do not inspire anyone.
FORGIVENESS: Have an open mind to others' weaknesses and forgive yourself when you make a mistake. All coaches, officials and players are trying their best.
As a spectator, you represent your school as much as any team member. Spectators are expected to exhibit good sportsmanship as well; inappropriate behavior by any party will not be tolerated. Participation and attendance at an athletic event is a privilege.
Message from the Athletic Coordinator
Over half of the student body is involved in Grand Avenue's team sports and intramurals. There are two programs available: interscholastic sports, and intramural activities.
To participate in interscholastic sports is a major commitment. Coaches usually hold two-hour practices everyday and the teams compete at home and away contests. The teams are bussed to away games when we play other schools in our conference such as Bethpage, Woodland and Mattlin, to name a few. The interscholastic sports program includes soccer, football, 8th grade tennis, cross country, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, track, softball, baseball and lacrosse.
This year's activity intramurals will include but are not limited to archery, hoop it up, ping-pong, weight training, european handball, racquetball, rock-climbing and gymnastics. Activity intramurals meet before school at 7 a.m. as well as after school.
Get involved, get some exercise, and have a good time!
Athletic Coordinator: Mr. Fleming
