ART CLUB: Mr. M. Goldberg, Advisor

Meeting Day: Wednesdays, Rm B277, 2:35pm-3:30 or 4:00

The art club gives all students a chance to have an experience in the visual arts, whether or not they are a current art student. The club is largely focused on group challenges and experiences. No art experience is necessary to join.


ATHLETES HELPING ATHLETES: Mrs. Riddiough and Mr. Muscarella, Advisors

Informational Meeting: Wednesday September 28, 2:35 in the gym.

Athletes Helping Athletes is a student leadership program for students who are drug and alcohol free. It is a club that promotes involvement in positive activities such as sports and clubs to prevent drug and alcohol use. Students in the club serve as positive role models for younger students by going to the elementary schools of North Merrick and speaking to them about these issues as well as preparing them for the middle schools. Students in this club also attend several training sessions at Molloy University to prepare them for delivering positive and instructional messages about high school to elementary school students.


CALHOUN-MEPHAM CHAMBER ORCHESTRA: Mr. Sutherland Advisor

Meeting Day: Wednesdays, 6-7:30 pm, Fall: Mepham, room 120, Spring: Calhoun, Band Room

String ensemble of highly motivated orchestra students from Calhoun and Mepham, performing a varied repertoire of fun and challenging music. No audition required, but players must be able to learn music quickly and independently.


COMPUTER CLUB: Mr. D. Goldberg, Advisor

Meeting Day: Thursdays, 2:15pm, Room 102

The Computer Club is an organization for any student interested in computers, digital applications, web building and design, and technology in general.  We meet about once a week to work on various projects in all of those catagories. 


DECA: Mr. P. Palazzo , Advisor

Meeting Day: Every other Tuesday at 2:30 in room 124

Calhoun DECA is a student organization whose program of leadership and personal development is designed specifically for students interested in marketing, management and entrepreneurship.

The goals of DECA are to promote leadership development, civic consciousness, social intelligence and vocational understanding.


DRAMA: On Tour Company: Mr. S. Salerno, Advisor

Meeting Day: Monday to Friday, Room B167, 3pm

Students from the district join together to share their interest in performance, production, and theater. The students participate either on stage or behind the scenes in each of the five productions held during the course of the year. Another part of "On Tour" is the Thespian Society, an international honors program, which students may join after acquiring points toward membership.


EXPRESS YOURSELF: Ms. W. Simson, Advisor

Meeting Day: Thursday, 2:30 to 3:30

Participants are chosen from the Calhoun On Tour program and paired as mentors for children in the Prep for Life Program. Express Yourself is a drama club that helps students improve socialization skills and a form of drama therapy.


FRESHMAN CLASS: Ms. Cerulli, Advisor

The Freshman Class Council will be working on organizing fundraising events and participating in school activities.  All freshmen are welcome! We look forward to hearing your ideas!


GAY STRAIGHT ALLIANCE: Ms. Boland and Ms. Brucculeri, Advisors

The mission of the Calhoun Gay Straight Alliance Club is to cultivate an atmosphere of tolerance and acceptance throughout the school and combat homophobia, discrimination and harassment based on sexual orientation.  We attempt to foster awareness, promote education, and support political activism in our community.  The GSA advocates for equal rights for all people and strives to eliminate ignorance and bias in the community, creating a safe school environment where all students can feel welcomed and accepted for their unique talents and contributions. 


HEBREW CULTURE CLUB: Mr. Wiener, Advisor

Meeting Day: Thursdays, 2:30-3:00 pm

Hebrew Culture Club is open to all students interested in teaching and learning about current events in Israel, Jewish holidays and festivals, Arab-Israeli relations, and the state of Jews in America and around the world.


HOOFBEATS: Mr. Boland, Advisor

Meeting Day: Mondays, Room 218, 2:35 pm

Hoofbeats is the official student newspaper of Calhoun, informing students, teachers, and the community of the school’s news and events. The paper is produced five times a year and spotlights the latest happenings on and around campus. Filled with news, sports, editorials, entertainment, and more, the paper serves as a source and forum for students. A nationally recognized and award winning newspaper, Hoofbeats is written and edited by the students and does its best to capture the essence of the goings on within the hallways of Calhoun.

JUNIOR CLASS: Mr. B. Joyce, Advisor

Meeting Day: Thursdays 2:25 Room #123

The Junior Class and it's officers are responsible for making decisions on behalf of the entire Junior class, fundraising money, and planning events such as the senior prom and graduation. All Juniors are welcome. Come out and support your class.


KEY CLUB: Ms. L. Montera, Advisor

Meeting Day: General Meeting, Every Wednesday, West Cafeteria, Officers Meet Every Monday in room 234

This club consists of students who volunteer their time with various fundraisers and charities. They support the entire communtiy taking part in numerous street fairs and events, as well as donating and participating in walks for a cause.


MOCK TRIAL: Mr. Clark, Advisor

Meeting Day: Firday, Rm 125

the club teaches basic trial techniques and culminates by participating in the nassau county bar association mock trial tournament.


MODEL UN: Ms. Khan, Advisor

Meeting Day: Thursdays, Room TBA, 2:20 pm

The National High School Model United Nations is bringing a global perspective to future leaders.  Model U.N. offers students a simulation of the diplomacy, problem solving, and the responsibilities of the United Nations.  The students make up the various delegations of the U.N. and play the role of diplomats in the United Nations within the various committees.  Through effective role-playing, Delegates must make an effort to solve international problems.  This task, however, must be accomplished without violating the bounds of the member states’ national charter. 


NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY: Ms Rosslee, Advisor

The Calhoun High School National Honor Society is both a service and academic honor society that serves the Calhoun community. Members must fulfill the five point requirement to graduate as members of the honor society. Inductions are held in the spring for juniors and in the fall for seniors.


PEGASUS: Mr. Perrry, and Mr. Goldberg, Advisors

This club creates and publishes Pegasus, Calhoun's Literary Magazine. Club members have the opportunity to be involved in all stages of the process including creation of literary and artwork, editing, layout, selection of work, etc.


PREP COMPUTER CLUB: Ms. Blowers and Mrs. Funk, Advisors

Meeting Day: Wednesdays, Room 111 (Computer lab), 2:15-3:15 pm

PREP Computer Club will provide students the opportunity to expand their computer skills while socializing with peers. Students will be educated about computer/internet safety and will complete projects using various basic software programs as well as internet resources.


PREP ENTREPRENEUR CLUB: Ms. Natof and Ms. Joy, Advisors

Meetings: Thursdays, 2:30-3:30

The Prep Entrepreneur Club encourages social interactions and helps students develop appropriate social skills. It is a great way for students to get to know each other while having fun! Each week we will have a variety of fun and interactive activities, such as playing games, arts and crafts, and much more!


SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions): Ms. Cinelli, Advisor

Meeting Day: Mondays, Room B275, after school

Calhoun's SADD Chapter is a local branch of a national organization. Its members consist of students interested in helping other students refrain from making destructive decisions. SADD's mission is to provide students with the best prevention and intervention tools possible to deal with the issues of underage drinking, other drug use, impaired driving, teen violence, etc.


SCIENCE CLUB: Mrs. Melo, Advisor

Meeting Day:Thursdays at 2:30 in Room 319

A major focus of Science Club is the Science Olympiads competition in February. Students with an interest in science, art, and construction are highly encouraged to get more information about this county-wide event. In addition, student members contribute significantly to the recycling program in the school. Although these are two major areas of the club, we are ALWAYS open to new ideas and suggestions! WORLD OF DIFFERENCE: Ms. Levinson & Mr. Gioia, Advisors

The World of Difference club is part of a national organization which promotes prejudice reduction in schools. The World of Difference club has been involved in Relay for Life, the recycling program, volunteer work, the Giving Tree project to help families in need during the holidays, beach clean-ups and much more. All are welcome!
