The Literary Journal Club produces Illusions, Grand Avenue Middle School's award winning student publication.

Our club welcomes any student with an interest and skill in writing or art. Club members first evaluate and edit a wide variety of student writing, including poems, essays, interviews, short stories, fables, and plays. They then determine which pieces of student artwork and writing best complement each other. Next, they proofread the work and create a clear and aesthetically pleasing layout for the magazine. At the end of the school year, each student at Grand Avenue receives a copy of Illusions.

All students are encouraged to submit their original artwork and writing to the Literary Journal Club's advisor, Ms. Parry, or to their art, English, or Writing Enrichment teachers. Throughout the year, the club holds several literary and art contests open to Grand Avenue's entire student body, and winners not only have the opportunity to have their work published in Illusions, but also win prizes.

Illusions has won numerous awards. Recently, ut was the international winner of the EdPress 2000 Distinguished Achievement Award for Junior High/Middle School Publishing/ Also, it was a Columbia Scholastic Press Association Bronze Medalist and earned National Scholastic Press Association's highest rating, All American.
