Yorker Club
Click here for Yorker Club Activities and Field Trip Photos 2009-10 The Yorker Club of Grand Avenue is a part of the New York Historical Association. We have two main goals: promote a love of history and knowledge of where we live and community service. To complete our first goal we go on field trips to places of interest. So far this year we have visited historic Cutchogue on the end of Long Island, visited the homes of Franklin Roosevelt and Eleanor Roosevelt in Hyde Park and we will be going to Walt Whitman's birthplace in November. Each trip includes a class or tour that explains something about the site and the people who lived there and used it. The Yorker Club is also heavily involved with community service. We raised $650.00 for hurricane and earthquake victims by holding many bake sales cosponsored by the Builders Club. We are currently involved in our huge food drive that will provide families in Bellmore with food at Thanksgiving. This is truly a community project because the students and staff of the school contribute as well as the PTSA. In December we will visit the Bellmore Senior Center for a holiday party. We have an ongoing relationship with them and visit with them a few times a year. The Yorker Club is very successful because the students show a real concern about their community. |
