In November 2019, 50 mathematicians from Merrick Avenue Middle School took the American Mathematics Competition 8 exam — the most challenging math test offered to middle school students.
Avidan Moont and Paula Pastor scored in the top 5 percent of all students across the country and were listed on the Honor Roll for all scorers, showing off their superior critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
“The entire MAMS math department is proud of Avidan and Paula's achievement and know that they have many more successful moments like this in their future,” explained Math chairperson David Prince.
