The Meadowbrook Alternative Program hosted a No Place for Hate event on March 2 aimed at empowering students to continue providing an inclusive and supportive environment.
“The students analyzed poetry and artwork, ’The fall of Icarus’ and viewed a slide show about the Sandy Hook Promise,” explained Principal Susan Ellinghaus. “They also worked on creating tiles this week that include positive messages of support.”
These and tiles from last year’s event have been placed around the entrance to the Zen Den.
“Our goal is to completely cover the wall with messages of affirmation and love. Many of our students use the Zen Den when they feel overwhelmed,” added Ellinghaus. “As they walk in, the messages on the tiles remind them of their self-worth and that they are in a safe place, free of judgement.”
