Three teams from the Central High School District competed in the second annual High School kid OYO Code Conquest Hackathon on April 9.?

The Cougar Hacker Squad, Calhoun Code Crackers and Mepham Programmin' Pirates all competed in this “intense project-based coding competition similar to the game of Risk, involving not only programming skills, but strategy as well,” explained Danielle Caliendo, a district chairperson in mathematics and computer science.

This year’s theme was the Dragon's Realm and for three straight hours, students created projects using various programming languages to conquer territories on a map and gain points.

The Calhoun Code Crackers was coached by Caitlin King, the Programmin' Pirates was coached by Brad Vogel and James Alford, and the Cougar Hacker Squad was coached by Carla Petroro.?Up until the last few minutes, Mepham's Programmin' Pirates were holding on to second place, but finished in third.

“We are extremely proud of all our teams and students, and we are?happy to have taken part in such a tremendous event,” added Caliendo.?“Overall, it was an exciting and fun-filled day for all involved. The students are already strategizing about next year's hackathon.”
