The Mandarin Honor Society at Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District’s Mepham High School, under the direction of Lydia Qiu, recently hosted a celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival.
Students Helena Fu and Kate McNerney gave a presentation about the history and cultural significance of the holiday and the led the participants in two hands-on activities.
Students made traditional paper lanterns and Tang Yuan, a mochi rice ball filled with red bean paste and chocolate. They also enjoyed moon cakes and Chinese sweets.
