The Mepham High School grounds were in Pirate pride on Sept. 25 as students, staff, administrators and visiting members of the Bellmore-Merrick community celebrated homecoming in style.

Coming off a week of energetic school spirit events, Mepham invited the community to attend its Piratfest just before the homecoming game. School clubs were front and center and children’s activities, games and local food vendors were also on hand.

The Pirates went on to defeat Glen Cove, 63-30. With news of Sofia LaSpina’s historic touchdown catch in the limelight all week, the Pirates’ team captain Nick Honerkamp kept the momentum going, scoring seven touchdowns.

Kickline and cheer squads pumped up the crowd at halftime, where Annaliese Boglione and Gabriel Terra were named queen and king, respectively. The band, led by Anthony Brandofino, kept a peppy tone throughout the game. Carol Farina Kilgallin, class of 1972 and Mepham Alumni Association president, was this year’s Grand Marshall.
