In a sea of green and white at Kennedy High School on Sept. 25, school community celebrated its Homecoming festivities.

The school’s first-ever homecoming dance, a bonfire, festival and football game capped off a week of themed spirit wear days.

“Saturday’s homecoming festival was a great way to start a very prideful day at Kennedy,” said Principal Gerard Owenburg.

Students in the CHAMP culinary program served up concession items. Band Director Walter Avellaneda led student musicians in peppy background sounds. The kickline and cheer squads kept energy levels high on the sidelines and during their halftime performances.

Youssof Bendary and Sophia Warren were voted Homecoming king and queen, respectively. Despite a strong effort, the Cougars fell to Valley Stream South in the last eight seconds, 16-15. Joe Vaccarro, Ethan Katz and Adam Schmitt scored an 80-yard touchdown on a hood and ladder play.
