Several students across the Central High School District were selected as participants/alternates for the 2021 New York State School Music Association All-State Music Festival.

The following students have been selected to participate in Rochester this December: Calhoun High School student Bryce Gould Anderson (Symphonic Band -bass clarinet), Mepham High School student Victoria O’Shea (Mixed Chorus – Soprano 2) and Kennedy High School students Jessica Blumberg (Symphonic Orchestra – violin), Melissa Blumberg (Symphonic Band – clarinet), Gavin Chen (Symphonic Orchestra – violin), Massimo Marino (Symphonic Band – bassoon), Chris Prainito (Symphonic Band – oboe and also a Alto Sax alternate).

Additionally, Calhoun student Julianna Belbol was named as a Choir alternate, and Kennedy student Zohar Spiegel was named a bassoon alternate.

“We are so incredibly proud of these students,” said Cheryl Fontana, district director of the fine & performing arts. “Acceptance to All-State is a true reflection not only of their work as high school students, but really of their entire musical career.”

The students are taught under the direction of teachers Walter Avellaneda from Kennedy, Christina Dimitriou from Mepham and Edward Tumminelli and Catherine Vedilago from Calhoun.

“Participating in the All-State rehearsal process and performances is a tremendously rewarding experience that they have certainly earned through their commitment and dedication to music,” added Fontana.
