On Saturday, Dec. 18, several Bellmore-Merrick students volunteered to honor and remember the lives of fallen heroes at Pine Lawn Cemetery with Wreaths Across America.

The student participants are involved in the Civil Air Patrol cadet program. Before each cadet presented the wreath, they gave reverence to each fallen hero by saying their name aloud and saluting.

Merrick Avenue Middle School technology instructor, Carl Yannuzzi, who also serves as the squadrons aerospace education officer and is a First Lieutenant, participated as well.

Some of the students who participated include: Cadet Staff Sergeant, Dalton Chen – eighth grader at Grand Avenue Middle School, Cadet Staff Sergeant, Dashiell Chen – tenth grader at Mepham High School, Cadet 2nd Lieutenant, Lauren Gomez-Nieto - junior grader at Kennedy High School and Cadet Senior Airman and Paige Gomez-Nieto – ninth grader at Kennedy.
