Calhoun High School junior Jonathan Lloyd recently won the high school award in the 26th annual Peacemaking Contest, sponsored by the Community Presbyterian Church of Merrick.
Charged with the task of writing an essay or story that detailed a personal experience in which he identified “those things that make for peace,” Lloyd wrote about Calhoun experiences that have significantly impacted him such as the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge and Relay for Life.
Mrs. Gould, an elder in the Community Presbyterian Church of Merrick, said that Jonathan’s entry was “touching in the way that he explained how he has been impacted by character-building experiences at school as well as how family values are instilled at home.”
