Three students in the district have been named finalists in the 62nd annual National Merit Scholarship Program.

Alaina Anderson of Calhoun High School, Maximilian Bazil of Kennedy High School and Rachel Jozwick of Mepham High School all received this distinction.

“We are proud of the exemplary students who received this prestigious honor,” said Superintendent John DeTommaso. “In addition to being strong in academics, they have each contributed greatly to their school community.”

The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships. High school students enter the National Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Approximately 15,000 students, or approximately one-third of the 50,000 high scorers qualified as finalists. From here, approximately 7,500 students will be notified of various monetary, corporate-sponsored or college-sponsored awards.
