To culminate spirit week at Mepham High School, the Pirate community hosted a festival, pep rally and homecoming game on Sept. 28.

Various clubs set up booths in the parking lot that included face painting, bubble creation and slime making.
Teams were called onto the field during the pep rally to display their school spirit and the Bellmore-Merrick community came together as the football team took on Valley Stream Central in the evening.

Parent volunteers worked yummy concession stands and the school’s band kept the crowd moving and grooving to today’s hits.

At halftime the cheerleading and kickline squads got the crowd on their feet. Anthony Novello and Samantha Bello were crowned homecoming king and queen, respectively. Novello dislocated his shoulder early in the game and was transported to a local hospital. He later returned to be crowned king, alongside his girlfriend, Bello.

The Pirates defeated Valley Stream Central, 28-13.

“It was a hard-fought game between two good teams,” said Coach and Athletic Director Anthony Cracco. “The effort by our players was outstanding.”
