Two seniors in the district participated in the 2017 National Association for Music Education All-Eastern Festival and Concert in Atlantic City, New Jersey early April, earning high honors.

Skylar Berkley of Kennedy was selected as second chair clarinet with the Honors Orchestra and Julia Losner of Calhoun High School was selected as a Soprano II in the Honors Treble Chorus.

“Both of these ensembles are comprised of top student musicians from high schools across the northeast,” said Cheryl Fontana, the district’s director of the fine and performing arts. “This is such an incredible accomplishment for these two young ladies; the entire district is extremely proud.”

The intense three-day rehearsal period culminated with a live performance at the Adrian Phillips Ballroom in the historic Boardwalk Hall on Saturday, April 8. They were advised by music directors Wally Avellaneda and Sanford Sardo, respectively.
