John F. Kennedy High School’s wrestling team had 11 wrestlers qualify for the recent Nassau County Championships.

Of those 11, five earned All-County honors by placing in the top six in their weight class.
Greg Brach finished in fifth place; Brandon Mercado and Dan Shafron each finished in third place; and Boaz Smart and Jack Krug both competed for the county championship, finishing in second place. Krug lost 12-11 in a challenging match that went into overtime.

“We had a memorable season with a great group of kids who loved wrestling,” said coach Brian DeGaetano. “Their hard work earned them one of the best seasons in 10 years for Kennedy. They enjoyed the hard work and sacrifice, but more importantly they supported each other through the ups and downs of a wrestling season.”
