The school district came together with community members to fundraise for the district’s annual American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life event.
The grassroots event, held overnight on May 12-13 at Calhoun High School, allows students and other participants to walk all night to commemorate those who have lost, survived or are currently fighting a battle against cancer.
“Whether it was a fundraiser, organizing a fundraiser, helping out during the night, being an adult supervisor, serving food, supporting a survivor or caretaker, getting raffles…every part of the event is accomplished because of a host of students, staff and parents that make it happen,” said Principal Nicole Hollings.
The event raised nearly $64,000.
