Gabriela Daza, the Class of 2019 salutatorian at Mepham High School in the Bellmore-Merrick Central School District, was recently recognized with a Pathfinder Award from the Town of Hempstead on March 26.
While the award recognizes her “outstanding leadership qualities and serving as an inspiration to others,” it was specifically her work with the organization, ERASE Racism and efforts to promote equality among her peers that made Daza stand out to the panel. She’s among eight other high school students selected.
These annual awards honor women who have made notable impacts in their communities and include nine different categories.
