Bellmore-Merrick Kicks Off Concert Season with Annual Vocal Showcase

As has become a recent tradition, the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District will get things started with its District Vocal Music Showcase at the end of the month.

This popular community event features performances by the district’s five select vocal ensembles: John F. Kennedy High School Variety Choir, Merrick Avenue Middle School’s Word of Mouth, Grand Avenue Middle School’s Grand Voices, Wellington C. Mepham High School’s MephAcapella, and Sanford H. Calhoun High School’s Pulse!  The evening will conclude with a combined finale in which students from our elementary component districts will once again be invited up to sing with the upper classmen.

“We are always so excited to provide the unique opportunity for our choral students to come together and showcase their work collectively, both for each other and the members of the Bellmore-Merrick communities,” said Cheryl Fontana, director of the Fine & Performing Arts. “This has become a real highlight of our music department. Events like this reflect the ‘One Voice, One Message’ theme that resonates throughout our district. This year, the BMCHSD is focusing on getting closer to students’ hearts; for these young individuals, singing is truly their passion and what fills their hearts with genuine joy.”

The event will take place on stage at Calhoun High School, 1786 State St., Merrick on Monday, Nov. 25 at 7 p.m. While admission is free and open to the public, students will be collecting donations for the CHSD Food Pantry, the Community Cupboard.
