Athletics

Welcome to Grand Avenue Athletics!

Grand Avenue has a proud tradition of encouraging students to participate in a myriad of activities to enrich their middle school experience. We believe that athletics plays a significant role in creating a well-rounded student. We accomplish this goal by offering two choices for athletic pursuits: intramural and interscholastic sports.

Our intramural program includes archery, basketball, ping-pong, weight training, flag football, badminton and lacrosse. These activities are held exclusively at Grand Avenue, either prior to school or immediately after. Intramural participation allows for a relaxed commitment and meets a few times a week.

Our interscholastic sports program consists of four athletic seasons: fall, winter I, winter II, and spring.

Fall sports include boys' and girls' soccer, boys' and girls' cross country, girls' tennis and football.

Winter I consists of boys' basketball and girls' volleyball.

Winter II offers girls' basketball, boys' volleyball, and wrestling.

Spring provides baseball, softball, boys' and girls' lacrosse, boys' and girls' track, and boys' tennis.

Student athletes who choose to participate in our interscholastic sports program have a considerable commitment to the team. Practices for these sports are typically two hours in length and meet Monday through Friday. Additionally, teams compete in athletic events both home at Grand Avenue and at locally-based conference schools.

Lastly, Grand Avenue athletics proudly encourages student athletes to partake in sportsmanship centered competition. Students are encouraged to employ the tenets of our Grand Avenue character education program, CARES (Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Equity, Strength) on the field of each sport.

We are proud of the achievements our student athletes make both academically and athletically. We encourage all students to get involved in any of our athletic programs. It will surely be a GRAND experience!

GO GRAND!

Sportsmanship Code

At Grand Avenue we believe sportsmanship is a commitment to playing fairly with respect for the rules of the sport, and with courtesy towards all players, coaches, officials, and fans.

RESPECT: Welcome your visiting opponents. Show high regard for your school, coaches, officials, team, opponents, fans and self.

HONESTY: Give your best effort and let the score reflect the truth. Take pride in being accurate and knowing you are playing by the rules.

INTEGRITY: Accept the results of the game. Win graciously without gloating and lose without pouting or excuses.

SUPPORT: Be positive and offer encouragement. Negative comments do not inspire anyone.

FORGIVENESS: Have an open mind to others' weaknesses and forgive yourself when you make a mistake. All coaches, officials and players are trying their best.

As a spectator, you represent your school as much as any team member. Spectators are expected to exhibit good sportsmanship as well; inappropriate behavior by any party will not be tolerated. Participation and attendance at an athletic event is a privilege.
