Bienvenue! Benvenuti! ¡Bienvenidos!

Welcome to the Sanford H. Calhoun Department of World Languages Webpage!

The Department of World Languages has the unique and important responsibility of teaching students to become active global citizens. Our teachers bring a wealth of personal experience and knowledge to their students, providing them with a well-rounded perspective of other languages and cultures.

The Department of World Languages is dedicated to helping students acquire a second and possibly a third language, while also instilling in them an appreciation for other cultures. The department firmly believes that our 21st century learners must possess strong language skills and a well-developed understanding of other cultures to be successful participants in our increasingly closer global community.

Requirements & Eligibility:
The World Languages honor societies recognize students that demonstrate a high level of proficiency in the study of a World Language and show a genuine interest in the culture and people of the target language.

The World Languages Honor Society induction will take place in the fall. Each spring of the prior school year, language teachers will select candidates based on each student's achievement during each of the four making periods. Eligible students must be 10th or 11th graders and earn an average of 90 or above for each of the four marking periods. For students to maintain their eligibility for induction in the fall, they must be registered in a World Languages class at the time of the induction. It is expected that inductees will continue their World Language studies through the school year.
