The Mepham High School girls lacrosse team nabbed the conference III championship after defeating East Meadow, 17-7 on May 6.

The Lady Pirates, who ended conference play 7-1, are coached by Kristen Mogavero, a library media specialist at John F. Kennedy High School.

“The team faced a challenging schedule this year that included four non-conference games against conference two opponents who were in a higher conference than us,” she explained. “Although we have a young roster, the team's bond and dedication were able to allow them to find success.”

This is the first time in program history that the team has won the conference III championship. They have won other conferences in the past.

Additionally, sophomores Jenna Dempsey and Olivia Meyer were selected to represent Long Island at the U.S. Lacrosse National Tournament.
