Kennedy Golf Team Nabs Conference Title

The Kennedy High School golf team earned a conference title for their spring season on May 20.

On May 16, the team won 7-2 against Lynbrook High School with individual wins byChris Cacciatore, Stephen Gallo, Max Izen and Ethan Katsman.The next day, May 17, the team faced Long Beach High School in what would ultimately decide the conference championship.

“It was a close match and with the first four golfers finished we were down by only three strokes,” explained coach Russell Lella. “It came down to the last two golfers on the course,Max IzenandAlex Michals. Both outlasted their opponents on the last hole to seal the win and earn the team their first conference title since 2018.”

Cacciatorealso won his match with a low score of 41, finished in the top 20 spring golfers and was named All-County Honorable Mention. Eighth grader Stephen Gallo also earned individual honors and was named All-Conference. Ties byJack LernerandJared Geffner were also helpful to the victory.Also contributing to the team’s success this season were Nick Jaramillo, Ethan Katsman, Matt Leicht, Coby Loew, Ryan Macolino, Ryan Pegalis and Zach Stagnitta.

“With the victory the team earned a bid in the county championship to be played on Bethpage Blue on May 24,” Lella explained.

The team competed in the annual Bellmore Merrick cup, a three-way match between Kennedy, Sanford H. Calhoun and Wellington C. Mepham high schools.The team won all their matches to retain the coveted trophy and bragging rights for the year.

Wins were earned byChris Cacciatore, Stephen Gallo, Jared Geffner, Jack Lerner, Max Izen and Zach Stagnitta.
