Several students across the Central High School District were selected as participants/alternates for the 2022 New York State School Music Association All-State Music Festival.

The All-State selection process begins during the previous school year. To be considered for All-State, students must first be recommended by their music director and perform a Level 6 audition piece at the spring NYSSMA festival receiving a score of 98 or higher.

The following students have been accepted and will travel to Rochester on Dec. 1 to participate in four days of intense rehearsals and performances.

Massimo Marino of John F. Kennedy High School – symphonic band (bassoon), Aden Abramovitz of Kennedy – chorus (tenor 2), Ruby Mattes of Wellington C. Mepham High School – symphony orchestra (double bass) and Liam Osborne, also of Mepham – instrumental jazz (tenor trombone).

Alternates are Jessica Blumberg of Kennedy –Orchestra (violin), Amanda Falls of Sanford H. Calhoun High School– chorus (Soprano 2, Liam Osborne of Mepham - Jazz Ensemble (jazz piano) and Fiona Wong of Calhoun – band (snare drum).

“We are so proud of these young musicians on this outstanding accomplishment,” said Cheryl Fontana, the district’s director of the fine & performing arts.“Being selected as an All-State Musician not only reflects their exceptional talent, but more importantly their passion & dedication to music throughout their educational career.”

The students are taught under the direction of Walter Avellaneda, Anthony Brandofino, Emily Kenyon, Jeanette Pincus, Ed Tumminelli, Catherine Vedilago and Rachel Shapiro.
