Iliana Waldman of Sanford H. Calhoun High School hosted a fundraising charity dinner, Women in Business and Leadership on Jan. 3, drawing more than 60 attendees.

This dinner featured prominent female business leaders from the community, including Hempstead Town Clerk Kate Murray, Linda Amryn, president and CEO of Bethpage Federal Credit Union, among others.

“During this dinner event, these speakers imparted their wisdom by providing guidance and inspiration on how the attendees can maximize their chances for success,” Waldman explained.

Her goal was to "inspire students to learn ways to succeed and overcome challenges that women in the workplace may face.”

While most of the funds raised will be used to establish a scholarship fund to support high school girls from Nassau County who have demonstrated exemplary leadership and community service, a portion will also benefit the Calhoun DECA Club.

Calhoun DECA is a student organization whose program of leadership and personal development is designed specifically for students interested in marketing, management and entrepreneurship. The goals of DECA are to promote leadership development, civic consciousness, social intelligence and vocational understanding.

Waldman has already raised more than $9,300 and is continuing efforts to reach her goal of $10,000.
