Dear Bellmore-Merrick Driver Education Families:
Yesterday, the State Education Department (SED) issued updated guidance explaining how students enrolled in Driver Education programs can complete classroom instruction and road tests during the extended school closure. Unfortunately, based on these guidelines, Bellmore-Merrick will not be able to provide lecture remotely as it would not meet the requirements of the SED. Therefore, we will resume Driver Education instruction when the extended school closure ends. After consultation with the Department of Motor Vehicles, SED will also allow students enrolled in Driver Education courses in spring 2020 to complete laboratory instruction (Car) during the summer or fall of 2020. Rest assured that BMCHSD will honor tuition and provide credit to future sessions accordingly. Please know that our first priority will be to complete the spring 2020 Driver Education session for our students. That could mean instruction is completed in the summer for those enrolled this spring. In the event that there is an update from SED on these guidelines, we are prepared to act quickly to provide our students the instruction they have grown accustom to and you will be notified immediately. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at your convenience. Be safe and stay healthy.
All driving and lecture classes will be postponed until further notice. Please understand that every effort will be made to determine how to fulfill the NYS requirement as it pertains to Drive Education. This will be communicated at the appropriate time. Stay healthy and be safe. Thank you.
