MAMS Earns School to Watch Re-Designation

After a comprehensive application process, Merrick Avenue Middle School was named a "School to Watch" by the National Forum to Accelerate Middle-Grades Reform in 2002.
Earning re-designation is a rigorous, but meaningful process, explained Principal Katelyn Dunn.
“Over the past year, our staff has engaged in an extensive self-study, completed an involved application process, compiled evidence of our progress, and welcomed a site visit to evaluate our growth,” she explained. “We are proud to say we met and exceeded the standards for re-designation. During our site visit, the review team was particularly impressed by the warmth, energy, and engagement of our students and staff.”
The "School to Watch" program shines a spotlight on schools across the country that demonstrate improvement and excel in various areas. It focuses on four essential parts of middle school education: Academic excellence, developmental responsiveness, social equity and organizational support.
Dunn noted that this accomplishment would not be possible “without the support of our incredible students, families and staff.”
“This is truly a moment of celebration for our entire Merrick Avenue School community,” she added. “Thank you for being part of a school community that believes in growth, values reflection and always strives to do what’s best for our students.”
