Calhoun’s Sofia Ricci Accepted into CSH Laboratory Program

Sofia Ricci, a junior at Calhoun High School, has been selected as a distinguished participant in the 2025-26 cohort of the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) Partners for the Future (PFF) program.
This initiative offers exceptional high school students from Long Island an immersive opportunity to engage in hands-on biomedical research under the mentorship of world-class scientists.
Jennifer Pefanis, the Director of Science Research at Calhoun said this is ‘an extraordinary honor that only a select rising seniors from across Long Island earn.”
“Sofia’s hard work, resourcefulness, and unwavering determination, combined with her exceptional academic record, allowed her to stand out in an incredibly competitive applicant pool,” she noted. “Her acceptance is a testament to both her scientific potential and her relentless pursuit of excellence. We are so proud of Sofia and look forward to supporting her in her research endeavors.”
The Partners for the Future program is renowned for empowering young scholars to explore the realm of contemporary science beyond the classroom. Through this program, Ricci will gain direct laboratory experience, work on original research projects, and collaborate closely with leading professionals. The program not only hones technical and analytical skills but also fosters innovative thinking and scientific curiosity, qualities that Sofia has clearly demonstrated throughout her academic career.
“Sofia’s passion for scientific inquiry and her commitment to excellence set her apart as a promising future leader in biomedical research,” noted a press release from the research program. “We are confident that Sofia will contribute meaningfully to the Long Island research community and take full advantage of the enriching experiences the PFF program offers.”
Ricci, who will be engaged in the program from September 2025 - March 2026, will be working in the Dos Santos laboratory.
