Mepham English Teacher Awarded Grant

Marc Achtziger, an English teacher at Mepham High School, is the recipient of a $1,000 award from The Book Love Foundation.
According to a release, The Book Love Foundation, an organization committed to supporting teachers in building robust classroom libraries, selected Achtziger for his exceptional dedication to equitable literacy practices and his proven ability to engage students in reading.
This grant will enable the Mepham teacher to acquire a diverse collection of books, further fostering a love of reading among his students. He had to complete an intense six-part application for consideration of this award.
"We believe in you and believe in your work," stated Penny Kittle, Chairman of the Book Love Foundation Board of Directors in the award notification letter. We know you will fill the shelves of your classroom library with books students want to read, and we offer you a grant to support this important work."
Achtziger is the first high school teacher from Long Island to win a Book Love Foundation Grant.
