Calhoun Unveils “You are Not Alone” Mural

Calhoun High School unveiled its long-anticipated “You Are Not Alone” mural, a meaningful project organized and supported by the schools’ PTSA designed to promote mental health awareness and reinforce the message of connection and support within the school community on Feb. 13.
The 8’ x 10’ painted mural was brought to life through the vision of PTSA Vice President Michelle Leo, the dedication of Calhoun’s talented art students, the guidance of art teachers, and the support of school administration and the PTSA.
“Every student is dealing with challenges and should know that it’s OK to seek help,” noted Leo.
The unveiling, part of a districtwide celebration of P.S. I Love You Day, continued with live performances by the school’s Rock Band, mindfulness activities aimed at promoting well-being, and a variety of engaging opportunities for students and staff to connect. The PTSA-sponsored photo booth captured hundreds of smiles from both students and teachers, while a wellness table offered stress-relieving resources and thoughtful giveaways.
“As parents, we recognized how meaningful and relevant this project is for our students, community, and school,” added Christine Mitkish, the PTSA co-president.
“The mural embodies a message of support and care, a common theme in all our district schools.
Special appreciation is extended to Lisa Triano, Chris Mitkish, Michelle Leo, Jeanette Cregg, Christine Alonso, and Colette Harris for their support in organizing the event. Additional thanks are given to art teachers Jessica Conte and Arianna Partland, as well as Principal Michael Hughes and Assistant Principal Danielle Amato, for their contributions and support.
