STEAM Career Fair Aims to Inspire Future Innovators

In an effort to inspire the next generation of innovators, Kennedy High School hosted its annual STEAM Career Fair on April 21, connecting students with professionals from a wide range of industries.
“This event exemplifies the district’s commitment to STEAM education while connecting students with the professional community,” stated District Science/STEAM Chair Roger Bing. “It was especially rewarding to see the level of interaction and genuine interest exhibited by those in attendance.”
The event featured more than 50 businesses, schools, medical professionals, and organizations, offering students valuable insight into careers shaping the future. Participants included Northwell Health, the Department of Environmental Conservation, Weill Cornell Medicine, Barracuda, Delta Airlines, Zwanger Pedro Radiology, members of the Civil Air Patrol, and many others. Notably, several presenters were Kennedy alumni, reflecting the district’s strong and ongoing connection with its graduates.
“The STEAM Career Fair is an incredible opportunity for our community to gain firsthand experience by connecting with professionals, learning about their day-to-day work, and hearing the highlights of their careers,” noted Barbi Frank, Kennedy’s director of Advanced Science Research and the Fair organizer.
Throughout the fair, students explored interactive exhibits and workshops that provided hands-on experience with emerging technologies, including virtual reality, flight simulations, robotics, and 3D printing.
Leading up to the event, the school also hosted its annual Medical Scrabble fundraiser, where teams of students competed in a science-themed version of the classic board game. Winners were seniors Cole Stern and Joseph Littman, for the second year in a row.
“It’s an enjoyable night for all, and it’s clear that everyone walks away having learned something new,” added Frank.
