Board of Education Honors Student Representatives for a Year of Service

As the 2025–26 school year draws to a close, the Central High School District Board of Education recognized four student representatives for their dedicated service during its June 3 meeting.
Seniors Kara Dobbs of Calhoun High School, Makenzie Goldstein of Brookside School/MAP, Emily Kesler of Kennedy High School and Jake Wilson of Mepham High School served as student representatives throughout the school year, providing monthly updates on student activities, achievements and events from their respective schools.
In her final address, Goldstein told the board that this ‘role has helped me grow in my ability to speak in public, work alongside students from the other buildings and
work on my writing skills.’
Their reports offered board members and community members valuable insight into student life across the district. Through their thoughtful presentations and engaging commentary, the students not only highlighted school accomplishments but also brought enthusiasm and perspective to each board meeting.
The June 3 meeting marked the students' final official reports from the board dais. In recognition of their contributions and commitment to representing their schools, each student was presented with a commemorative gavel by the Board of Education.
District leaders thanked the four seniors for their service, leadership and dedication to amplifying student voices throughout the year.
As they conclude their tenure as student representatives and prepare for graduation, the district wishes them continued success in their future endeavors.
Dobbs noted it was a ‘pleasure and a privilege’ to update the board and community each month throughout the school year.
“As all seniors move on from their Bellmore-Merrick family, I can guarantee it will hold a dear place in all of our hearts thanks to all of you. Thank you, all the amazing leadership. This goodbye is quite bittersweet, but I cannot wait to
see what this district has in store for the future.”
