Bellmore-Merrick CHSD Celebrates the Class of 2026's Valedictorians and Salutatorians

The Central High School District proudly recognizes the exceptional achievements of the Class of 2026's valedictorians and salutatorians from Kennedy High School, Calhoun High School, WMepham High School and the Meadowbrook Alternative Program.
“These students distinguished themselves through academic excellence, leadership, service and dedication to their school communities,” noted Superintendent Michael Harrington. “Their accomplishments reflect years of hard work and perseverance and have left a lasting impact on their respective schools.”
At Kennedy High School, Valedictorian Mason Schlesinger of Merrick is slated to study Economics at Duke University after excelling as a leader in Student Government, volleyball, FBLA and Math Team. He also served as Student Government Executive Board treasurer and founded Kennedy's chapter of the Wharton High School Investment Competition.
“Mason has distinguished himself not only as a remarkable scholar but also as a thoughtful leader and an essential part of our school’s identity,” said Courtney Waller, school counselor. “He is intellectually curious and willing to take risks to follow his passions. He is a dynamic young man destined to inspire and lead wherever his path may take him.”
Salutatorian Conor McMillan of Bellmore plans to attend Brown University to study Applied Mathematics. His high school career included leadership roles in robotics, Student Government, CyberPatriots and community service initiatives, while also earning recognition as an AP Scholar with Distinction and National Merit Commended Scholar.
“What truly sets Conor apart from others is his character,” said Jessica Miller, school counselor. “He balances demanding academics and leadership roles with resilience, kindness and respect towards his teachers and peers. He is a student who not only excels personally, but also uplifts those around him.”
At Mepham High School, Valedictorian Gulshan Singh of North Bellmore plans to attend Harvard University to study Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
Through the Advanced Science Research Program, he conducted award-winning research, served as President of the LEOs/AWOD Club, Vice President of Operation Smile and completed more than 800 hours of community service.
“Gulshan aspires to a career in medicine, where he hopes to blend scientific rigor with the same selfless compassion his father has modeled every day,” said Jen DiPrima, school counselor. “His integrity, intellectual curiosity and steadfast devotion to lifting others have left a lasting legacy at Mepham.”
Salutatorian Sofia Caba of Bellmore is slated to attend Lon Island University for nursing after building an impressive record of academic achievement while remaining active in Mepham's band and jazz band programs, Operation Smile and volunteer experiences at Katz Women's Hospital.
“Sofia spent four years striving to become the best version of herself, approaching each challenge with sincerity, learning from her missteps, and managing her time so that she could maintain high grades while still being present in the lives of those she loves,” said Kathleen McCloat, school counselor.
At Calhoun High School, Valedictorian Luke Pierce of North Merrick plans to Dartmouth College to study Biomedical Engineering on the Pre-Med track. A Feinstein Visiting Scholar with published medical research, Pierce founded the Aegis Health Foundation, served as Vice President of the Medical Club and captained both the Winter and Spring Track and Field teams.
“Luke is an exceptional student whose intellectual curiosity, leadership and compassion have defined his high school journey,” said Amanda Engel, school counselor. “A driven scholar and innovator, he has pursued advanced scientific research as a Feinstein Visiting Scholar, with published work in the Society for Maternal Fetal Medicine Journal, and gained hands-on experience in various healthcare settings, all while remaining deeply committed to serving others.”
Salutatorian Alyssa Waldman of Merrick is slated to attend Washington University in St. Louis to study Biomedical Engineering on the Pre-Med track. Her accomplishments include advanced neuroscience research, leadership in multiple clubs and honor societies, athletic achievement and extensive community service.
“Alyssa possesses an extraordinary passion for science, intellectual fearlessness and a deeply personal commitment to advancing the field of neuroscience,” said Jennifer Racanelli, school counselor. “Beyond the laboratory, Alyssa's passion for neuroscience is rooted in empathy and service. Alyssa is intellectually curious, relentlessly driven, compassionate and visionary.”
The Meadowbrook Alternative Program recognized Abby Racer of Bellmore as its valedictorian. Racer is slated to attend Iona University and major in Entrepreneurial Leadership. As Student Council president, student ambassador and Community Cupboard volunteer, she played a key role in fostering a welcoming and supportive school environment.
“Abby has made a meaningful impact on our school community through her leadership, creativity and compassion,” said Carol Cupo, school counselor. “Her warmth, involvement and dedication to others have made her a valued member of our school family, and we are proud to celebrate all she has achieved.”
Salutatorian Vincent Perna of North Bellmore plans to attend Nassau Community College and pursue a career in engineering..
“Vince is someone who brings kindness, integrity and positivity to our school community every single day,” said Cupo. “He consistently strives to do the right thing, leading by quiet example through his character, respect for others and strong work ethic. His presence has made a lasting impact on our school community, and we are incredibly proud of all he has accomplished.”
