Calhoun Celebrates Student Talent, Entrepreneurship at Holiday Market

Sanford H. Calhoun High School celebrated student creativity, entrepreneurship, and career readiness at its 2nd Annual Holiday Market, held in the school lobby on Dec. 19.
The festive event showcased student-run vocational businesses and programs, giving families, staff, and community members the opportunity to shop locally while supporting hands-on learning. Students from the Prep for the Future and COORE programs, along with Cosmetology and Direct Service Provider (DSP) classes, played an active role in planning, creating, and running the market.
Visitors enjoyed a welcoming coffee bar, browsed handmade holiday ornaments and craft items, and added some sparkle with hair tinsel services provided by cosmetology students. Shoppers could also pick up school spirit gear, including popular Colt swag from The Stable, the school’s student-run store.
“The holiday market is a wonderful example of how our vocational programs prepare students for life beyond the classroom,” said Melissa Rohr, a special education chairperson. “Our students gain real-world experience in customer service, collaboration, and business operations, all while building confidence and pride in their work.”
