Calhoun Rock Band Performs at North Merrick Library

Friday the 13th of March proved to be a lucky night for the crowd at the North Merrick Library’s Teen Takeover.
In a high-energy showcase of local talent, Calhoun High School Rock Band joined forces with local metal band Sanitarium for an unforgettable night of music.
The Calhoun Rock Band, led by music teacher Ed Tumminelli, debuted fresh material alongside fan favorites. Their set spanned genres, featuring a cover of Nirvana’s version of “The Man Who Sold the World,” Brandi Carlile’s “The Story,” and crowd-pleasers like “Stick Season.” They closed out their performance with fan favorite “Don’t Stop Believing” by Journey.
Sanitarium, which is comprised of current and former Calhoun students, then shifted gears, proving heavy metal is thriving among the younger generation, with thunderous covers of Metallica’s “Ride The Lightning”, “Holy Wars (The Punishment Due)” by Megadeth, and a Pantera song medley. It was easily the loudest—and perhaps most electric—performance in the library’s history.
