Mepham’s Literary Magazine Earns National “Superior” Recognition

Fragments, the Mepham High School student literary magazine, has been recognized as “Superior” in the 2025 National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) Recognizing Excellence in Art and Literary Magazines (REALM) program.
This distinction places Fragments among the top student literary publications in the nation and internationally. For the 2025 REALM program, NCTE reviewed 456 student magazines submitted by schools in 44 states, Washington, D.C., and six countries, with entries representing middle schools, high schools, and institutions of higher education.
Nicole Maresca, Mepham faculty adviser and creative writing teacher, noted that this achievement “highlights the extraordinary talent within our building.”
“From first-time poets to the published alumni featured on our final pages, Mepham continues to be a nurturing environment where young writers and artists find their wings and the confidence to take flight,” she added. “Seeing our alumni continue to publish their prose and poetry long after graduation is a beautiful reminder of the creative spirit Fragments has ignited.”
The REALM “Superior” designation reflects the exceptional quality of student writing, editing, and design showcased in the magazine, as well as the dedication of the faculty advisors who guide students through the creative and publishing process. The honor highlights the district’s commitment to literacy and the arts, and to providing meaningful opportunities for student voice and expression.
The REALM program publicly recognizes excellent student-produced literary magazines with teacher support. REALM is designed to encourage all schools to develop literary magazines that celebrate the art and craft of writing.
