Two Bellmore-Merrick Wrestlers Capture Nassau County Titles

Three standout wrestlers from the Bellmore-Merrick have qualified for the New York State Championships.
Mepham High School senior Jason Martin claimed the Nassau County championship at 190 pounds, cementing his place in school history. A three-time All-County wrestler, Martin was also awarded the prestigious Most Outstanding Wrestler Award in recognition of his exceptional skill, leadership and performance on the mat.
Mepham senior, Jack Weber, was a true second winner at the Feb. 16 countywide competition, qualifying him for states. Weber, an All-County wrestler, will compete at 190 pounds.
Kennedy sophomore Peter Mikedis captured the Nassau County championship title at 165 pounds, sealing his championship victory with a pin in the finals. Mikedis, a two-time All-County wrester, was also named a Most Outstanding Wrestler Award recipient.
“These accomplishments reflect the hard work, dedication and resilience of Jason and Peter, as well as the strength of our wrestling programs districtwide,” said Eric Caballero, the Director of Physical Education, Athletics, Driver Education and Health. “We are incredibly proud of their achievements and look forward to cheering them on at the state level.”
Martin, Mikedis and Weber will represent Bellmore-Merrick at the New York State Championships in Albany beginning Feb. 27.
