MAP Creates Cool Ties for Military Members in the Middle East

In keeping with the strong sense of community service, which is one of the major tenets of MAP, students and staff gathered on Dec. 9 to sew and stuff Cool Ties.

These will be sent to soldiers serving in the Middle East. Operation Gratitude makes boxes for service members and will include one of these in each box.

“Once sewn, the ties are filled with a polymer blend which absorbs water (one pound of these crystals makes 50 cool ties),” said Principal Susan Ellinghaus. “Our soldiers soak the ties in water for 45 minutes and then wrap the ties around their necks to keep cool. They are reusable as well.”
